Prior to the party he was convinced that if he did not have a Thomas birthday party, he would not recieve any more Thomas trains. Of course this would be devastating for the big guy. It took us a while to explain to him that not all of his presents will be tractors and that a theme has nothing to do with the presents. In the end he understood (we think).
